Triangle AMA Board Members Attend Leadership Summit
By Karen Albritton, Incoming Triangle AMA President, 2009/2010

How do you successfully lead a nonprofit volunteer organization, balance your day job and keep your sanity? To find out, five Triangle AMA board members participated in the 2009 AMA Leadership Summit in Chicago, April 23-26. Shane Johnston, Audra Marotta, Marlena Fournier, Susan Amey and I attended workshops, planning sessions and roundtables during the three day summit. Some workshops focused specifically on individual board positions. “It was terrific to make connections with other chapter leaders across the country. I learned best practices, have new sources for ideas and made new friends too,” Audra Marotta, Treasurer. The Summit is an intense immersion into AMA Leadership. Participants interact with the leadership of the international organization as well as volunteers who have led chapters around the country. “Attending the summit helps prepare you to lead your local chapter. I also learned some fundamentals of leading a board or a team of volunteers." Shane Johnston, President-Elect.
