President's Letter: Marketing and Networking…Outside the Box and Inside the Triangle
By Mark Doggett Chapter President 2008-2009
Let’s not talk about the economy or the presidential elections. Let’s take a look at what’s going on with your local American Marketing Association chapter!
- In September, your Triangle AMA Chapter won the “Turn Around Chapter of the Year: 2007-2008 Chapter Excellence Award,” as the chapter exhibiting the most significant improvement overall, given the obstacles its members had to overcome. While your local Board is still scratching their heads wondering what these obstacles were, we’re proud to tell you this award recognized the Triangle Chapter as one of the four top-scoring AMA chapters in the United States! Congratulations are in order for our past President, Eric Schmidt, his board of directors, and Kathleen Schindler, who did an incredible job of pulling together our submission.

About 10 companies sent representatives to provide the students an inside view of the profession and career and internship opportunities within their organizations. Ed Weems, faculty advisor for the student chapter, said the professionals stayed more than an hour after the session was scheduled to end, a reflection of the value they saw in meeting and talking with upcoming talent. Watch this site for additional events in the future.

Triangle AMA supports Dignity U Wear—And We Need You!
Dignity U Wear is a nonprofit organization that provides brand new clothing to those in need. They do so by supplying the clothing to recipient agencies across the nation. In the Triangle this includes the Durham Crisis Center, TROSA, Oak Ranch and The Healing Place. Since it's inception, Dignity U Wear has provided over 100,000 pieces of clothing to these organizations right in our backyards.
With the economy in distress, Dignity U Wear expects to have more requests for clothing than ever before while simultaneously experiencing shrinking budgets of their own. The impact locally could be dramatic. That's why the Board of Directors of the Triangle AMA has approved an initiative to support Dignity U Wear in reaching its fundraising and awareness goals by providing marketing and promotional assistance to the organization.
We are seeking committed individuals to serve on a local Dignity U Wear committee to share their knowledge and expertise. This will be a great opportunity to make a difference, meet new people and feel good about giving back to the community in which we live. If you would like to get involved with this initiative, please contact Melissa McCaslin, Triangle AMA Director at Large, at mmccaslin@nc.rr.com. |
