President-Elect Letter November 2008

140.jpgWhat a great time to be a marketer. Sure, I know budgets are shrinking and jobs are not as plentiful as they once were. Still, what other profession is in the midst of such profound and exciting change? What profession has the ability to influence so many facets of daily life?

Two weeks ago the AMA and Capstrat hosted an event where we explored the intersection of gaming and marketing. Gaming represents more than a new form of entertainment or new medium. It's a new way for organizations to communicate and marketing will play a key role.

Just this past week the country and the world watched the conclusion of a political campaign where marketing, specifically digital marketing, was credited with forever changing how we choose our elected officials.

If the Kennedy-Nixon debate of 1960 ushered in the golden age of television, then the Obama-McCain campaign of 2008 may set the stage for the platinum age of digital.

As marketers we are obligated to keep up with and capitalize on these changes. Here's where the AMA comes in. Our volunteers work to provide the programming, connections and resources that enable our members to lead their companies and clients in these exciting times. If you have an idea for a program or event, please share it. If you want to play a role in shaping our organization for the future, please get involved with a committee. And as always, if you want to tap into the best community of marketers, come to the next meeting.

See you on November 20!
